Scion: Hero, Demigod, God Empty
PostSubject: Scion: Hero, Demigod, God   Scion: Hero, Demigod, God Icon_minitimeMon Oct 19, 2009 1:17 am

THE STORY:
At first, when there was nothing but chaos, the Titans gathered, absorbing like energies and expelling that which was different from them. In the havoc, some tried to give birth to new forms of themselves, but these children, the Gods, were more advanced and had greater identity than their parents. The gods could also make alliances, and they fought and turned back the Titans, binding their parents in a prison that was supposed to last forever. The titans' other brood, collectively known as titanspawn, were inhuman monsters of myth, who retreated in the face of divine might. The gods then set about shaping reality into three levels: the Overworld, where the Gods lived and set things in motion; the World, where mortals lived and Fate decreed the patterns that all things, even gods, had to follow; and the Underworld, where the souls of the dead gathered, constructed around the Titans' prison. Each god ruled over a geographical area and culture in different pantheons, while ensuring that their energies were properly controlled: Amaterasu made the Sun rise in Japan, Apollo did the same in the Greco-Roman world, and Huitzilopoctli did likewise in the Aztec empire. The gods traveled to the World often, and had romances and eventually children with mortals, and these children became heroes, and could rise in power to become demigods and even gods themselves, if they were favored by Fate and took part in many adventures, for immortality comes first through stories and legend, and then in fact. But then the gods noticed that the more time they spent among mortals, doing great and terrible deeds, the more tightly fate bound them to each other and to mortals... and so it was agreed that the gods would retreat to the Overworld and the respective godrealms of each pantheon, and only visit the World occasionally. Time passed, but then, in 2000, several of the Titans burst free from their prisons. The Underworld was fractured, the Titanspawn gathered to begin tormenting Humanity, and the Titans besieged the godrealms. Many great gods died in the fighting, but the strongest pantheons continued to resist the Titans... but they could only fight on one level, and couldn't oppose the works of the Titanspawn in the World while the Titans themselves attacked in the Overworld. So a few of the gods from each Pantheon that could spare them managed to sneak to Earth to spend time there, wooing and enticing mortals, and have children. These children, or Scions, could be watched from the Overworld and given birthrights that would empower them with supernatural abilities (boons) if they proved worthy, and then they could take the fight to the Titanspawn, and prevent more of the Titans from being unleashed. As their personal legends increased, they could perhaps one day join their parents as gods.

REQUIREMENTS
To play, you will need to post your character's..
NAME
AGE: (between 18 and 30)
PANTHEON: (See below)
DIVINE PARENT: (you can only have one)
BIRTHRIGHTS: (things that grant powers - weapons, artifacts, transportation, followers, pets)
BOONS: (the powers, either epic attributes or those granted by birthrights)
APPEARANCE:
BACKGROUND: (Extra points if you can sneak in little tidbits and hints about the divine parent's mythology here... for instance, lawman Horace Farrow is a scion of Horus, grew up in the town of Thebes, Illinois, had a father named Cyrus who was killed by his uncle, Seth, and lost an eye driving Seth off... try and play with names and themes of the myths and your characters... and have fun)

KEEP IN MIND THAT YOUR CHARACTER WILL SOMEDAY BE A GOD OR GODDESS IN HIS OR HER PANTHEON, AND THAT THE TITLE ("God of ___________") THAT HE OR SHE GAINS WILL PROBABLY BE RELATED TO ONE OF HIS/HER PARENT'S QUALITIES AND THE EXPERIENCES AND POWERS YOUR CHARACTER GAINS... for instance, the high school football playing scion of Thor, Eric Donner, was given a chip of Mjolnir for the hammer of his dwarf-built oversized peacemaker, mastered several boons of the Sky purview, and eventually became Norse god of Lightning. His friends Horace Farrow (Horus) became Egyptian God of Justice; Donnie Rhodes (Aphrodite) became the Greek God of Love and Loss after failing to see that he was beloved by Yukiko Kuromizu (Susano-o), who became the Dutiful Princess of Black Water, Japanese goddess of the ocean depths until she left to serve her father, etc. You should have a slight idea of what you want your character to become god of even at the beginning, because this will help you choose your powers and design your background and appearance.

THE GODS AND PANTHEONS

Godrealm: Given the importance of the Nile to Egypt, it is no surprise that the Egyptian godrealm, ITERU, is a fantastic, endless river of crystal clear water with a single immense island, home to a massive pyramid. The gods dwell not on the land, however, but on countless barges that are themselves vast and seemingly endless and fantastic, each designed for the god's specifications and interests. During the Day, Atum-Re's massive barge sails through Iteru bringing the sun and much of the light, but during the night, the realm is lit by countless stars.
Underworld: Duat
Atum-Re, Bastet, Geb, Horus, Isis, Osiris, Ptah, Set, Sobek, Thoth, Hapy, Hathor, Bes, Khonsu, Meretseger, Neith.

*The Dodekatheon* (Greek)

*The Devas* (Hindu)

Godrealm: Mount Meru
Underworld: Naraka

Note: Athena and Artemis are known for being virgins. Osiris no longer has the equipment. Raiden is pretty darn ugly. Hel is downright nightmare-inducing. Clearly, some gods will have trouble having half-mortal children. In this case, these gods may choose to adopt the scion of another god (particularly if that other god is not pleased with how they have turned out), in which case it is as if the Scion really was the genetic offspring of their new "parent" (being gods, they don't really have to deal with genetics). The original parent HAS to agree to this adoption. This effect won't work to turn a full mortal into a scion... the child in question has to have both mortal blood and divine ichor (no matter WHOSE ichor) in her for the transformation to take.

Scion: Hero, Demigod, God Empty
PostSubject: Re: Scion: Hero, Demigod, God   Scion: Hero, Demigod, God Icon_minitimeMon Oct 19, 2009 2:04 am

There are two kinds of boons in Scion... Epic attributes (strength, dexterity, stamina, charisma, manipulation, appearance, perception, intelligence, or wits driven to superhuman levels) and Purviews, which grant supernatural powers outside of human abilities. It is far easier for a scion to master those powers which are related to her divine parent, though there are exceptions (Helen of Troy was a daughter of Zeus, who is not known for his looks). You can choose TEN BOONS to start with.

EPIC ATTRIBUTES
-Epic Strength: Ever want to leap tall buildings in a single bound? Hit a baseball beyond the horizon? Push the Leaning Tower of Pisa upright?

-Epic Dexterity: Never trip even in rough terrain. Run so fast you blur. Climb like a monkey. Dodge bullets. Shoot an arrow while somersaulting off a trampoline and hit the target perfectly.

-Epic Stamina: Live without food and water for days. Eat anything and survive. Regenerate. Hold your breath for hours.

-Epic Charisma
: Convince people to believe outrageous truths. Charm people pantsless. Inspire everyone who hears your voice. Make ANYONE feel good.

-Epic Manipulation: Make people say things they wouldn't otherwise. Convince people to believe outrageous lies. Make people follow orders immediately. Ferret out deeply hidden secrets. Tell when anyone lies to you.

-Epic Appearance (Note, can be attractive or hideous): People can't look away from you. Immediately attract/terrify someone across a crowded room.

-Epic Perception: Detect subtle variations in pitch. Track prey by scent. Smell poison before eating. Danger sense. See in the dark. See miles away. Hear a butterfly flapping its wings in China.

-Epic Intelligence: Get every degree a university offers... in two semesters. No need for a calculator... ever. Perfect memory. Know minuscule details about nearly every subject. Teach someone else every degree the university offers... in four semesters.

-Epic Wits: Intuit exactly what happened after once glance at a crime scene. Focus perfectly in a burning building with a rock band and 100 dogs in the background. Incredible reflexes. Strike up a conversation with anyone on anything and fit in.

NOTE THAT YOU CAN HAVE OTHER ABILITIES THAN THE ONES LISTED HERE... THESE ARE JUST SUGGESTIONS. Epic intelligence, for instance, might let you pick up a language just by listening to/reading it.

PURVIEWS
You need a birthright to use these powers, though that need fades after you become a demigod (it is still useful to have them... Thor was much more powerful with his hammer than without it). As above, you can choose up to 10 specific powers from your COMBINED Epic Attributes AND Purviews (meaning your gun made in Hephaestus' forge is necessary to use your Fire and Earth boons, while your Hermes-blessed "lucky" sneakers might sprout wings and grant the Sky and Psychopomp purviews, but if you don't have any birthright with that purview's powers, you don't have those powers, and if you already chose four Epic Attribute powers, you only have six powers to spend in your purviews).

- Animal (Note: this purview requires you to choose a specific animal type... Hera - Peacock, Anubis - Jackal, Anansi- Spider, etc): Communicate, control, shapeshift, alter animals

- Chaos: Be untouched in the midst of a storm/fight, spark a chaotic scene, confuse others.

- Darkness: See in the dark. Obscure features, hide in shadows, animate shadows.

- Death: See ghosts, end suffering, raise zombie servants, stop people from dying.

- Earth: Survive underground without sustenance/air, echolocation, shape earth and stone with your mind, earthquakes, sandstorms, mudslides

- Fertility: control plants, fight vermin, curse crops, make crops flourish, animate plants, communicate with plants.

- Fire: Immune to fire, control fire, see out of any fire at any distance, melt metal with a touch.

- Frost: Freeze liquids, sculpt weapons from ice, immobilize foes, lower temperature.

- Guardian: Immediately sense anything that happens to someone you protect, grant protective fields, bar an area to particular monsters (ghosts,
titanspawn, etc)

- Health: Assess health, make healthy, curse with illness, heal wounds, etc.

- Illusion: Change appearance, confuse foes, appear to be somewhere else, etc.

- Justice: Determine guilt in any situation, make others fess up, protect innocents from someone else's punishment, etc.

- Moon: Influence tides, gravity, reflection, sight in the night, phase.

- Psychopomp: Pass through solid objects, know where you are always, find anything, move to other realms, teleport across the world, etc.

- Sky: Take no damage when falling, fly, charge weapons with lightning and thunder, control the weather.

- Sun: See through visual hindrances, emit sunlight, radiation, blind others.

- War: Inspire bravery, unnerve foes, enhance fighting skills, grow in size, multiply oneself.

- Water: breathe underwater, control water, change states of water, purify water.

- Magic: Manipulate fate and enchant objects and people.

- Mystery: Understanding how actions and reactions interact, including consequences.

- Prophecy: Know the future.

Other birthrights include followers (cultists, amazons, shades of the dead, zombies, nymphs, cherubs, mercenaries, etc), mentors/guides, pets (pegasi, dragons, giant animals, phoenixes, etc), enchanted modern weapons (such as pistols that make whomever is shot by them falls in love with the first person he sees), & ancient artifacts (altars, necklaces, swords, bows, mirrors, stones, pearls, hand fans, lances, axes, hammers, crowns, armor, etc). These DO count against you 10 choices of purviews and attributes, so choose carefully.

Each pantheon has one special purview that every god and scion can use without needing a birthright. ONLY MEMBERS OF THAT PANTHEON CAN USE THESE PURVIEWS!

Arete (Greek) - makes the user a master of whatever skills and talents he possesses.

Cheval (Voodoo) - Possess others and control the forces in their lives.

Heku (Egyptian) - Manipulate the different aspects of the concept of self... body, mind, spirit, energy, etc.

Itztli (Aztec) - Sacrifice things for greater power and benefits.

Jotunblut (Norse) - Bestow strength, toughness and intelligence to animals and followers through your blood.

Tsukumo-Gami (Japanese) - Every object has a spirit... this lets you control/converse with them and therefore influence the object.

Enech (Irish) - Influence one's honor and worth, and therefore their actions.

Taiyi (Chinese) - Alter matter through the use of the five elements (fire, water, wood, metal, and earth) and one's chi.

Samsara (Hindu) - Work against fate and karma

Duality (Slavic) - The ability to shift to your physical/mental/spiritual/supernatural opposite, taking on new powers and qualities.

Taboo (Polynesian) - Draw power from your behavior, agreeing to do or avoid a certain thing or things.

Djinn (Mesopotamian) - Conjure spirits of pure energy to do your bidding.

Tornaq (Native American) - Act as a spiritual middleman, taking on punishments meant for others, moving through different realms, and assuming spirit powers.

Scion: Hero, Demigod, God Empty
PostSubject: Re: Scion: Hero, Demigod, God   Scion: Hero, Demigod, God Icon_minitimeMon Oct 19, 2009 2:07 am

NAME: Kailani Kalawaiʻa
AGE: 25
PANTHEON: Akua (Polynesian)
DIVINE PARENT: Kamohoalii
BIRTHRIGHTS: Surfboard necklace (grows into a shark and ray decorated surfboard, grants psychopomp & water purviews), shark jaws tattoo on her back (grants guardian and animal-shark purviews).
BOONS: Chondrichthyes (shark/ray) form, control water, water breathing, can track by scent (Epic Perception), scan crime scene (Epic Wits), Blurt it Out (Epic Manipulation), Takes One to Know One (Epic Manipulation), Always knows her location, Vigil brand, it is easier to escape capture after freeing a trapped shark or ray, which she must do every time she encounters one (note: this doesn't include aquariums, where sharks are fed and cared for, but it does for nets and cave-ins)
APPEARANCE: Kailani is a beautiful hawaiian woman who wears her long hair back in a ponytail, and is frequently in her police officer's blue uniform, despite the fact that she is technically a detective on leave for an unspecified amount of time. Her eyes and hair are dark brown, and her skin is deeply tanned. She is in good shape from years of physical training and surfing, and her most noticeable feature is the tattoo of a shark's mouth over her back and shoulders.
BACKGROUND: Kailani is the daughter of Kamohoalii, the shark god who protects lost fishing boats and leads them safely home. Her mother's house boat drifted free one night, and Kamohoalii took the rope in his jaws and tugged it back into harbor. The next day, a handsome hawaiian man befriended her mother, only to vanish shortly thereafter. Her mother married a lawyer, and Kailani grew up learning everything she could about law and argument... and she became very, very good. She shocked everyone by going into law enforcement and detective training (though she occasionally takes night classes at law school), and joined the force, quickly rising through the ranks. Then, one night she was called into the commissioner's office, and a man with a blindingly white smile assured her that she was needed for a special mission... and revealed himself to be her father... and a god. After the visitation, Kailani was taken off active police duty for a special "undercover mission" by the powers that be, while she was actively fighting marine titanspawn off the coast of Hawaii. She has yet to encounter any other Scions, however.

NAME: Tomas Shepherd
AGE: 18
PANTHEON: The Annuna (Mesopotamian)
DIVINE PARENT: Tammuz
BIRTHRIGHTS: Griffin Short Sword (summons two Apkallu (Griffin-Demons) and grants the Sun & Frost Purviews), Porphyry Ring (Death & Sky Purview), Lapis Lazuli Flute (Fertility purview).
BOONS: Charmer (epic charisma), Center of Attention (Epic Appearance), Janni Messenger (Djinn), Touch Spirits (Death), Bless/Blight (Fertility), Divine Radiance, Flare Missiles (Sun), Flight (Sky), Arctic Touch (Frost).
APPEARANCE: Tomas is the guy girls daydream about. His hair is dark and cut short, and his eyes are a rich blue-green with the tiniest twinkle of gold. His skin is golden brown and tanned, and he has no fat on his 6'4" frame, just defined muscle. His smile is warm and friendly, a flash of snow-white teeth between soft lips. He favors worn jeans and cotton shirts that make him look a little like a cowboy.
BACKGROUND: Tomas' always appeared happy go lucky, cool, and together, but this was all a mask for a rough home life. His parents broke up, and he spent half the year with his gloomy father and half with his husband-hunting, philandering mother. Tomas threw himself into classes, helping out at his father's farm and mother's ranch, became everyone's best friend, took part in rodeo competitions, and cared for his little sister, Lilian... until his parents started taking each of them separately. One night, when his sister called, crying and scared by one of the men who his mother was courting, begging for her brother to take her to safety, Tomas ran out into the night, even though he lacked a car. A limousine pulled up beside him and the door opened, revealing a smiling gentleman in a tux, whose eyes were identical to Tomas'. Introducing himself as Tammuz, Mesopotamian God and Persephone figure, and more importantly, Tomas' birth father, the gentleman explained about scions and titans, and gave his son birthrights, then opened the door to show the ranch, in a fraction of the time it should have taken to drive there. Tomas thanked his father, and rushed into the house, searching for Lilian. He found her huddled in a corner, the man standing over her not human, but a creature of shadow and fangs and claws, calling itself a Rabisu. Scion and Demigod fought, solar flares against shadows, icy touch against claws, apkallu versus vampire minions, and when the Rabisu tried to escape by turning insubstantial and floating into the air, Tomas flew after him and used his power to physically touch spirits to slay the monster permanently. He returned, took his sister safely to stay with her father, who snapped out of his moping, confessed that the divorce had been due to his suspicions that his wife had cheated on him and Tomas wasn't his actual son, and promised to never let their mother or any of her companions near Lilian. The only odd thing was that their mother had vanished... except for some rumors about joining a cult somewhere back East. After graduation, confident that his sister would be safe and happy with their father, Tomas set out to save the world for his true father and find out what happened with his mother.

Scion: Hero, Demigod, God Empty
PostSubject: Re: Scion: Hero, Demigod, God   Scion: Hero, Demigod, God Icon_minitimeMon Sep 06, 2010 11:57 pm

Scion: Apotheosis (back, by popular demand)
You hear about it all the time... horrible atrocities committed by the most innocent-seeming people. Earthquakes. Tsunamis. Hurricanes. Tornadoes. Volcanoes. Avalanches. Pestilence. War. Blizzards. And more random events that can only be called "Acts of God." It seems the world is going crazy, and everybody is ignoring it, chasing the next high or greater fame or money or lover. But it isn't a problem with the World, but the Overworld, and it isn't acts of God that cause these disasters, but acts of Titans. The World is only the central level of existence, with the Overworld, the glorious home of every culture's Pantheon above it, and the Underworld, where the souls and memories of the dead retreat below. For millennia, the Titans, raw matter and energy given sentience, were bound by their children, the Gods, who were more intricate and real and alive than their predecessors, in a prison surrounding the Underworld. However, within the last 25 years, several of the Titans have broken free, and unleashed their children, monsters of myth and legend referred to as "Titanspawn," on the world. They have infiltrated society, using dark magic, supernatural powers and the like to usher in Ragnarok, the end of the world and to free other Titans, while their leaders besiege the godrealms in the Overworld.
However, all is not lost. Sometime before the rise of monotheism, the leaders of the Pantheons (Zeus, Amaterasu, Odin, Huitzilopoctli, Atum-Re, Damballa, Nuada, Marduk, Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva, the Jade Emperor, Mithra, Pele, Napi, Svarog) agreed on a policy of non-intervention with humanity when they noticed that as their legends grew, the more their actions in the World were hampered by an overwhelming manipulation of Fate, shaping the Gods against their will and weakening the humans they encountered, whose lives became tied with the God. Henceforth, the eldest Gods could only visit Earth to nudge humanity in the right direction or to pursue their own affairs... literally... among mortals, resulting in children who, though of mortal blood, had a whisper of divine ichor flowing in their veins. When such a child was claimed by a god (not necessarily their parent... numerous gods are virgins and can "adopt" the children of another god if that child doesn't appeal to their parent) and the god either sends a messenger or personally visits the mortal, they become Scions, awakening their ichor and becoming Heroes. Heroes can use birthrights (magic items, followers, guides, pets, etc) to channel the boons (powers) of different purviews (Earth, Sun, Moon, Sky, Death, War, etc) related to those of their Patron or manifest superhuman feats of epic strength, appearance, intelligence, endurance, etc and fight the titanspawn on earth. If they do well, their personal legend will grow and fate will take notice, awakening greater power and transforming them into Demigods, who can use boons without their birthright and enter the Underworld. Finally, truly spectacular successes among Scions can find ways to gain immortality and become Gods, to take the fight to the Titans and battle alongside their patrons. So step forward, hero... and embrace your fate!

Subject: Scion: Apotheosis (back, by popular demand)
To play, you will need to post of bio including your Scion's...
NAME:
AGE: (between 18 and 40)
PANTHEON: (see below. I'd prefer if we only had one scion for each pantheon)
DIVINE PATRON: (you can only have one)
EPIC ATTRIBUTES: (Attributes are qualities humans have, but which Scions can take far beyond human limits: Strength, Dexterity (speed, agility, grace, nimbleness, Stamina, Charisma (honestly leading others), Manipulation (deceiving and using others), Appearance (can be attractiveness or horrific visage, or both), Perception, Intelligence (knowledge), Wits (thinking on your feet). Hercules had Epic Strength, Helen of Troy had Epic Appearance, and if Sherlock Holmes was a Scion he'd have had Epic Perception, and maybe Epic Intelligence and Epic Wits)
KNACKS: (Special powers related to your Epic Attributes... if you can do complex math in your head in a moment's thought or leap a tall building in a single bound or throw something so far it becomes a speck on the horizon, here's where that detail goes... you will gain more knacks as you progress)
BIRTHRIGHTS: (things that grant powers - weapons, artifacts, transportation, followers, pets. They need not be ancient... a modern bodyguard or gun forged by cyclopes and dwarves would be fine, as long as they're devoted to aiding you. Living birthrights are guides (who give you helpful information), followers (who serve you however they can), or creatures (pets, mounts, etc), while the rest are relics, which provide some benefit (a car that can drive across water, a roman breastplate that protects you better than a bulletproof vest, a necklace that increases your Epic Appearance) and might grant you access to a Purview (if you choose the Animal Purview, you must mention which animal the powers affect... Sobek controlled Crocodiles, while Bast controlled felines).
BOONS: (Specific powers granted by your purviews. With the fire purview, you might be immune to fire, the death purview might let you see and destroy ghosts, the sky purview might let you call lightning, etc. Consider what your character will eventually become god of, as it will usually relate to your legend and your parent's background. For instance, if you are a child of Thor, you might become a Norse god of lightning, and will want to get boons that suit that role, while 3 scions of Poseidon could be god of earthquakes, goddess of the coast, god of sealife, with very different powers for each)
APPEARANCE:
LEGEND: (Even before they are visited by the Divine, Scions are not normal people... they are touched by Fate, and their lives are shaped by their parent's myth... the daughter of Hel might be cruelly deformed on half her body, the son of Hera might find that his one true love cheated on him all the time, and the scion of Demeter might have death steal away everything that ever mattered to her. Make your character not just a person, but a mythic story. What happens when they find out they're the child of a god? And how are they set off down the path to oppose the Titanspawn? As an example, lawman Horace is a scion of Horus, the one-eyed hawk-headed son of Osiris, grew up in the town of Thebes, Illinois, had a father named Cyrus who was killed by his uncle, Seth, who was a scion of Set, and lost an eye driving Seth off)

Subject: Scion: Apotheosis (back, by popular demand)
NAME: Tomas
AGE: 18
PANTHEON: The Annuna (Mesopotamian)
DIVINE PATRON: Tammuz, Mesopotamian God of Shepherds, Fertility, and the natural world and its cycles, also a death & resurrection deity.
EPIC ATTRIBUTES: Epic Charisma, Epic Appearance (Attractive), Epic Stamina
KNACKS: Charmer (Epic Charisma) allows him to temporarily smother an upwelling of panic, suspicion, or hatred directed at him with convincing words and attitude, Center of Attention (Epic Appearance) draws all eyes to him, Holy Fortitude (Epic Stamina) doubles the time he can spend doing strenuous activity or go without food, water, or sleep.
BIRTHRIGHTS: Sumerian Bronze Short Sword with a hilt carved with Griffins (summons two Apkallu (Griffin-Demons) and grants the Sun & Frost Purviews), Tammuz's Porphyry Ring (Death & Sky Purview), Lapis Lazuli Flute (Fertility & Psychopomp purview).
BOONS: Tomas is intended as a would-be god of the changing seasons, and so his powers reflect this: Touch Spirits (Death), Bless/Blight (Fertility), Divine Radiance, Flare Missiles (Sun), Flight (Sky), Arctic Touch (Frost), Unbarred Entry (stepping through solid walls), Come Along (bring others with him using psychopomp boons) and Rainbow Bridge (Teleport somewhere else in the same realm)(Psychopomp)
LEGEND: Tomas always appeared happy go lucky, cool, and together, but this was all a mask for a rough home life. His parents divorced, and he spent half the year with his gloomy father and half with his husband-hunting, philandering mother. Tomas threw himself into classes, helping out at his father's farm and mother's ranch, competed in rodeos, and cared for his little sister, Belinda... until his parents started taking each of them separately. One night, shortly after graduation, when his sister called, crying and scared by her mother’s latest lover, begging for her brother to take her to safety, Tomas ran out into the night. A limousine pulled up beside him and the door opened, revealing a gentleman whose eyes were identical to Tomas'. Introducing himself as Tammuz, Mesopotamian God, and Tomas' birth father, the gentleman explained the titan situation, armed his son with birthrights, and dropped Tomas off at the ranch. Tomas rushed into the house and found Belinda huddled in a corner, the man standing over her not human, but a creature of shadow and fangs and claws, a Rabisu. Scion and Demon fought, solar flares against shadows, icy touch against claws, apkallu versus vampire minions. When the Rabisu tried to escape by turning insubstantial, Tomas used his power to touch spirits to slay the monster permanently. He took his sister to stay with her father, who snapped out of his moping, confessed that the divorce had been due to his suspicions that his wife had cheated on him and Tomas wasn't his actual son, and promised to never let their mother or any of her companions near Belinda. The only odd thing was that their mother had vanished... except for some rumors about joining a cult somewhere in Vegas. Tomas set out to save the world for his true father and find out what happened with his mother.

Subject: Basically, if you've seen someone do it in an action movie, it counts as a knack
-Epic Strength: Ever want to leap tall buildings in a single bound? Hit a baseball beyond the horizon? Push the Leaning Tower of Pisa upright? Throw a bus at someone? Break through a brick wall with a single punch? Crush a diamond with one hand?

-Epic Dexterity: Never trip even in rough terrain. Run so fast you blur. Climb like a monkey. Dodge bullets. Shoot an arrow while somersaulting off a trampoline and hit the target perfectly. Throw Zena's chakram and make it ricochet off the wall three times and strike every opponent present. Pick locks in half the time.

-Epic Stamina: Live without food and water for days. Eat anything and survive. Regenerate. Hold your breath for hours. Shrug off damage that should kill you. Become immovable.

-Epic Charisma: Convince people to believe outrageous truths. Charm people pantsless. Inspire everyone who hears your voice. Make ANYONE feel good. Make impassioned speeches at a moment's notice. Lead average citizens into battle.

-Epic Manipulation: Make people say things they wouldn't otherwise. Convince people to believe outrageous lies. Make people follow orders immediately. Ferret out deeply hidden secrets. Know when anyone lies to you.

-Epic Appearance (Note, can be attractive or hideous): People can't look away from you. Immediately attract/terrify someone across a crowded room. Make them fall in love with you / consider you their worst nightmare. Blind or paralyze opponents as they stare helplessly at your beauty/hideousness.

Invent a needed device from scraps. Research a ritual that no longer exists in any records.

Subject: The Titans
True Titans are large enough to be worlds of their own... dangerous, inhospitable worlds. However, they don't have any personality unless they are led by a Titan Avatar. There tend to be different avatars for each culture the titan has encountered, with different views on the Titan's defining feature or element. These avatars lead the titanspawn against the gods.

Akhetaten (Light): Avatar: Aten (Aten has killed any other avatars of Akhetaten, viewing himself as the sole "God" anywhere). Served by phoenixes, the corrupt scion Akhenaten, luminous warriors, blazing cyclopes, glacial mirages, and all varieties of angels, Aten focuses on destroying the Pesedjet, turning humans into his slavish, unthinking fanatics, and searing the world clean with devastating light.

The Drowned Road (Water): Avatars: MamiWata, Cipactli, Nu, Ran, Tethys. An endless sea, served by megalodons, drowned zombies, lusca (shark/squids), sea serpents, sirens, and ghostly pirates, MamiWata leads the others to attack the Loa.

Terra (Land/Fertility): Avatars: Gaia, Coatlicue, Jord, Kamimusuhi, GranBois. Terra is a mirror image of the world as it would be without humanity. Served by cyclopes, hekatonkheires, gigas, and all manner of animal life, Gaia has the forces of this normally peaceful titan against the Dodekatheon since the latter have banished all of her more monstrous and ugly children from their ranks.

Muspelheim (Fire): Avatars: Surtr, Prometheus, Kagutsuchi, Meretseger, Camxtli and Xocotl. Surtr rules this burning world, and plans to bring Ragnarok against the Aesir, and is massing his armies of fire giants, black sand cobras, flame eagles, nagaraja, and lava eels, along with mechanical devices of Prometheus.

Soku-no-kumi (Darkness): Avatars: Mikaboshi, Erebus, Huehueteotl. This dark, cavernous domain is filled with shadows that are more than they appear. Mikaboshi seeks to drown the lights the Amatsukami with his organ beasts, shinigamis, and giant ants.

Ehekatoyaatl (Air): Avatars: Huracan, Kaminokaze, Ouranos, Shu, Tuisco, Anshar. A whirling domain of endless sky and floating cloud lands, its hyades, coatl, stymphalian birds, storm giants and war peacocks are massing under Huracan's banner to blow away the Atzlanti.

Crom-Cruach (Earth): Avatar: Cethlenn (after Balor's death, Cethlenn refused to take another husband, halting the avatars of her worm-filled underground titan. She also masses the fomorians, mukade, and centipede cultists against the Tuatha).

Hundun (Chaos): Avatar: (the avatar of chaos has never formed, being too undefinable... instead, Hundun corrupts gods, the latest being Chiyou, to make war upon the Celestial Bureaucracy).

Logos (Order): Avatars: Themis, Syn, Ma'at. One of the rare titans who allied with the gods and was never imprisoned, Logos is a place of stark, powerful natural laws.

Vritra (Drought): Avatar: Danu. Vritra is thirst, hunger, greed, envy, and all other things that choke and kill and leech away for no reason, and it seeks to undo the cosmic cycles of the Devas with its Rakshasa and Naga followers.

Zrvan (Time): Avatar: Ahriman. The sheer apathetic power of entropic time is arrayed against the Yazatas and their ideas of progress and enlightenment.

NAME: Aaron
AGE: 23
PANTHEON: *The Dodekatheon* (Greek)
DIVINE PATRON: Aries
EPIC ATTRIBUTES: Epic Dexterity, Never trip even in rough terrain. Run so fast you blur. Climb like a monkey. Dodge bullets. Shoot an arrow while somersaulting off a trampoline and hit the target perfectly. Throw Zena's chakram and make it ricochet off the wall three times and strike every opponent present. Epic Perception: Detect subtle variations in pitch. Track prey by scent. Smell poison before eating. Danger sense. See in the dark. See miles away. Hear a butterfly flapping its wings in China.
BIRTHRIGHTS: a guide (Mr. M) to help train and build his powers. A ring that allows him to walk threw fire.
BOONS: Darkness, See in the dark. Obscure features, hide in shadows, animate shadows.
Guardian, Immediately sense anything that happens to someone you protect, grant protective fields, bar an area to particular monsters.
Health, assess health, make healthy, curse with illness, heal wounds, etc.
APPEARANCE: Aaron his attractive, he is by no means gorgeous, but he is comfortable with his appearance. He has blonde ,hair that is just starting to grow back out of the buzz cut do to his resent time in the military, and small hazy blue eyes. Too small in his opinion but he’s gotten used to them over the years. Aaron has deep laugh lines and a small birthmark on the right side of his jaw. His stands at a humble 5’9 and has a thin, toned body that is dusted with light freckles.
LEGEND: Aaron is the youngest of 8. He was raised in a small single parent home, in the rural coal miners town of Ranondale. Aaron, his father, and brothers have worked in the coal mines since they were old enough to pick up a rock. Aaron never had many complaints growing up -Was he was poor? Penniless. Without a mother? Yes. But his father had always told his sons kindly that complaints get you nothing but a sore mouth. Aaron had always been a sweet child, when he was young he used to play with the shadows on the wall for hours, imagining that they moved and that he had animated them into that motion. His Father saw him once and ,in a panic, made him stop. Aaron hasn’t played with shadows since ,he was less then five. When Aaron turned 18 three of his brothers died in a mine explosion, it was devastating to his family, not only emotionally, but financially as well. With out the extra income, Aaron’s family couldn’t afford to pay their bill or keep their home. Since Aaron was little he had always excelled in athletic endeavors, and so to help his family he decided to use those skills for profit and joined the military. Aaron was enlisted for three years, fighting wars and ending lives, and finally he was able to come home for good. He had taken a twelve hour plain ride to arrive in the state next to his home, and was headed for the bus terminal when he was approached by a tall dark skinned man in a black suit. The man’s told Aaron to call him Mr.M and that he was sent by his master Aries, god of war, to inform Aaron of the god’s interest in him and of the titans plans

Sorry if it was a bit rushed, I wanted to get this up quickly, because i was already past the deadline I made for myself. xD =]

Subject: Scion: Apotheosis (back, by popular demand)
OOC - Ok, looks pretty good, and I like the backstory. However, there are a few details that I have to ask you about.

First of all, the god's name is Ares (no "i"). Aries is a constellation, something entirely different.

You don't have any birthright relics that have anything to do with darkness, guardian, or health... just the ring (which, with its power to fireproof you, would seem to grant the fire purview instead). If you have a purview, you must have a relic to channel those powers through... little kids can't manipulate shadows without a relic that has something to do with darkness (though shadows and darkness might seem to reach out to him in dramatic moments in his life). Guides and servants can't grant purviews, though if you summon them with an object, it might work. Demigods can begin using powers without relics, but it is more difficult. Heroes, however, need relics any time they use a purview power, and no god is going to give a little kid a relic. Also, for the son of the god of war, you don't have any weapons or armor or helmets or shields. Furthermore, you are the son of a war god but lack the purview of war (not to mention epic strength)? I'm curious as to where you're going with Aaron... what is he going to be the god of if he survives to reach Olympus? Tomas is going to be a god of the seasons, so he has the Frost (Winter), Fertility (Spring), Sun (Summer), and Death (Autumn) purviews. I picked the sky purview to alter the weather and climate, and the psychopomp purview to allow him to travel across and between worlds (the cycle of seasons). It is perfectly acceptable to make a god of defenders or protectors, or a god of combat medics, or a god of the shadow of war, god of loss (he lost his mother and brothers, loss requires healing and guardians, and is a dark time), or even a god of peace (it is inverted from Ares, but still connected to him), but those don't seem to be the directions you're heading.

You also combined the epic attributes and knacks sections, and it seems like you selected every knack I mentioned in the epic attribute sections for the attributes you've chosen. Does he really need to hold his breath, track prey, hear far away, climb, or pick locks? I can see the rest as being useful for a veteran soldier or someone who worked in the mines (though the latter might explain breath-holding), but just because you have an epic attribute doesn't mean you can do everything with it... a biologist daughter of Demeter, a physicist son of Zeus, a computer scientist son of Hephaestus or a historian daughter of Athena or a chemist son of Dionysus might all have epic intelligence. The first might know all about Veterinary Medicine, the second could invent a device that fires lightning, the third might be able to invent realistic-looking androids, the fourth might be able to track an immortal titanspawn through historical writings, and the fifth might be able to make the perfect drink that acts as a truth serum. All uses of epic intelligence, but different.

I love, however, how you made Mr. M all mysterious and vague and shadowy... very cool! The detail of his name resembling Ares' and his being the youngest of 8 kids (which implies lots of fighting and resembles the dodekatheon's "family" of gods) are also cool touches.

Subject: Part one
NAME: Ashakai “Isis”
AGE: (between 18 and 40)-19
PANTHEON: (see below. I'd prefer if we only had one scion for each pantheon)-The Pesedjet (Duat)
DIVINE PATRON: (you can only have one)-Isis goddess of magic, motherhood, fertility.
EPIC ATTRIBUTES(how I came up with them): Epic Manipulation(When she used Ra), Epic Appearance(Seen as the perfect mother and always appears when picture with a throne or bull horns on her head with a mysterious beauty to her), Epic Charisma(She loves to help people. That’s why she wanted to control Ra), and Epic Wits(Using saliva from Ra‘s mouth to make a poisonous snake, because nothing else could penetrate Ra but Ra).
KNACKS: (Special powers related to your Epic Attributes... if you can do complex math in your head in a moment's thought or leap a tall building in a single bound or throw something so far it becomes a speck on the horizon, here's where that detail goes... you will gain more knacks as you progress)-She is good at manipulating people in getting them to do what she wants them to. Often pinning them into a corner that see no way out of or with her eyes if their minds are weak they are susceptible of being penetrated and glamoured(Epic Manipulation). Her eyes are alluring with the rest of her body. If you get stuck in her gave she can blind you. You shouldn’t worry to much she not quite mastered it so it only temporary. It can work through a camera lenses but she hasn’t mastered it yet(Epic Attractive Appearance). People tend to gravitate to her and want to one up to her and share their problems with her. She listens thought sometimes she doesn’t want to hear it. She does her best to protect the innocent. ( Epic Charisma). She is extremely clever and can find a loop hole in almost anything from legal text of a contract, to a ancient trap puzzle, or anything in her way( Epic wits).
BIRTHRIGHTS: She has an eagle companion that talks and gives her advice. She has a tattoo of eagle wings on her back that spans down till the end of her shoulder blade. She can change to a bull. This comes from her head dress that has a gold rim and is decorated with bull horns. She has the ability to heal wounds. She prefers not to do big ones cause it weakens her, also for the spell to work she has to know the persons name. She learned it from her spell book that Isis had. She has the ability to cast spells, enchant objects and foes, and create golems. She mostly magic inclined she has picked up learned everything yet. She carries a staff with a throne shaped object on top.

Subject: Part 2
APPEARANCE: Ashakai’s height is 5’8 and weighs 160 pounds. Scarlet’s skin is a terra cotta light brown and as smooth as butter except for in a couple of places. Her face is sort of rounded with a tight jaw line. Her hair is as black as midnight in Alaska. The left side of her head is braided on the left and wavy and layered on the right, (like Alicia Keys or Jill Scot). Her eyes are almond shaped and the color of jade with dark coal eyelashes surrounding them feathering outward. Her eyes turn purple when using magic. Her eyebrows are arched and have two slashes on the right side made with a blade. Her nose is small and round almost like a button on her face. Her lips are full, bow-shaped, and pouted. She has a strong chin that comes down to a curved point. Her head is connected to a kind of short neck. Her necks not real short it’s just not long and she doesn’t like it. Downward she has to rather broad but strong shoulders that lead into two chiseled average length arms and small hands. From there, her strong back that supports her thick frame arches into a round backside. She has a tattoo from the top of her shoulder blades to a little bit past where her shoulder blade is. Her tattoo is a set of wings with gold accents on it. In the front, she is kind of top heavy and her thick waist tight on her cut line is a tattoo “Isis“. Her lower body where most of her strength comes from has thick strong thighs tight muscular calves and small arched feet. She is seen wearing a less provocative version of Isis’s dress. The top has gold fabric with a v cut and the bottom half short and flowy in red that looks like snakes skin or scales. That is only her traditional outfit she has others. She has the original dress but she strays from wearing it.

LEGEND: Ashakai was always found striking even before she met her mother. Her “mother” and father split. When her “mother” explained why she simply said, “ I fear that I am not enough for your father. I don’t want to be second best.“ Ashakai didn’t come to understand that statement for a long time. Men found her as the best girlfriend to have. They always wanted more than she was willing to give at her age and at this time. One day she met Cyrus, her mothers step son. He had transferred over to her school. She fell hard for him and he for her too. They did not know they were step sister in brother, so there romance burned bright. Cyrus became popular in no time and the couple was said to be in the running for cutest couple. Cyrus of course leading the boys to state in football and Ash and the girls track team dominating at state. Seth his brother a loner became increasingly jealous of the brother. One day Seth convinced his brother to go to lunch with him that day instead of with Ash. She dismissed it but she couldn’t get the voice out of her mind. “ Since when does Seth want to hang out with his brother?” All the images flashed in her head as She can see Seth in the picture for once. She had never noticed him before.,” Oh God have mercy how could I have been so stupid.” She took off in her car. She found Cyrus severely beaten special in one vital area. She rushed him to the doctor her hand on his chest. She could feel his heart beat. She could feel it get stronger. She saw Isis appear in her driver mirror, “ That is my girl.” Her face when away Ash shook the daze away as she carried Cyrus into the hospital. The hospital didn’t see how he lived so long loosing as much blood as he did. They even said he could still have kids. However, when her stepmother realized there was a relationship going on between the Cyrus and Ash she and her husband forbid it. Ash in tears drove home and ran to her room and shut the door. She laid on her bed and cried. “ Oh, my beautiful daughter. I wish it didn’t have to be this way for you.” Ash looked up at Isis, “ Your not my mother.” Isis stroked her hair, “ Why were you urged to get that tattoo of wings done?” Ash thought for a moment, “I… You’re my mother…” She

OOC - Ashakai looks awesome (though the end of the second post cut off, and you didn't need to copy all the parenthetical information I included in the bio framework).

OOOC - Just for notes, as gods can "adopt" the half-human children of other gods as their scions, because Gods are made of ichor, and do not have flesh and blood or DNA. Gods are essentially animated ideas and energies, which accounts for their immortality and ability to change their appearance, disappear, control the environment, etc. That is also why Isis and Osiris, Set and Nephthys, Zeus and just about everyone (including Hera and probably Demeter) can safely have children with their relatives... they're not really related, any more than Lightning is related to Marriage, or Magic is related to the Dead. Similarly, Scions of the same god are not actually genetically related to one another and may, if they wish, have offspring (who might, in turn, be adopted as the scion of their grandparent). Scions adopted by a god other than their birth parent actually are the children of their adoptive parent, according to the laws of fate, and so they inherit that parent's powers and purviews, but genetically there is no connection, though they may physically resemble their patron.

OOOOC - I'm guessing Ashakai has the magic purview (which has "spells" instead of powers) but you didn't specifically mention any other purviews (at least, as far as I noticed).

Subject: Missing Parts
Part One:
BOONS: - She has the death purview which allows her to reincarnate a body. She prefers not to use this one however. She also has the health purview she can cure people however side effects occur to her in the process. Her tattoo of eagle wings now with gold accents. Gives her the power to teleport she can only go as far as cities. She cannot do specific buildings yet.(Psychopomp). Of, course she has the magic purview and is capable of using many of spells. Magic came a little bit easier to her than her other purviews. She still has spells that requires her to channel energy she doesn’t know how to tap.

Part Two The Legend continues:“ Oh, my beautiful daughter. I wish it didn’t have to be this way for you.” Ash looked up at Isis, “ Your not my mother.” Isis stroked her hair, “ Why were you urged to get that tattoo of wings done?” Ash thought for a moment, “I… You’re my mother…” She looked at the eagle wings spanning her mothers back. Isis smiled, “Smart girl, I need your help. “Ash still looking bewildered asked, “ With what?” Isis stroked her daughters back, “ Bad things are coming. You’ve noticed the change in season haven’t you? It is only going to get worse.” Ashkai Isis thought for a moment, “ Tell me what I need to do?” Isis smiled, “ You are defiantly my daughter.” She put a staff with sharp horns at the top in Ash’s hand.

NAME: Melanye
AGE: 19
PANTHEON: The Dodekatheon
DIVINE PATRON: Zeus, the Greek god of thunder and lightning and the king of all gods.
EPIC ATTRIBUTES: Epic Appearance [Attractive, but not for godmodding reasons.], Epic Perception, Epic Strength
KNACKS: When people look at her, they automatically are in awe of her beauty, and Melanye uses that to her advantage. She draws whoever in and can destroys them on the spot, or can push thoughts into their mind with her eyes [Epic Appearance]. She's able to crush anything or lift anything heavy effortlessly [Epic Strength]. Also, her perception is very precise, and accurate. She can track someone by listening to how they walk or what actions they always do. She can't do anything too wide, but it's accurate.
BIRTHRIGHTS: A silver lightning bolt charm on a thin necklace, which makes her create lightning or fire [Fire and Sky purview]. A curved sword with a golden hilt that freezes any object that touches its blade or gives the person the oddest cold feeling, almost like frost bite [Frost purview]. She also has an owl as her watcher, the one that warns her of any danger or anything that's coming in the future, though her father's symbol is the eagle.
BOONS: Control lightning and thunder [Sky], able to create fire and be immune to it [Fire], can tell the future, but it's very hazy for her [Prophecy], her sword gives her Frost, control water [Water], can make emotions peak and make everyone angered to cause a fight and has a force around her in a fight [Chaos], fighting skills are much better, but it drains her quickly [War].

APPEARANCE: Melanye's 5'6, with long legs and a little bit of hips. Her face is framed with layered, thick ink-black hair with blue streaks in it. Her hair falls to the middle of her back, and she has side bangs that cover her wide, blazing gray eyes. Her eyes have dark, short, but thick lashes. Her skin is a smooth, light tan color. Her nose is small and ski-slope, but with a slight crookedness to the right. Her lips are a pale pink and full, sometimes pursed from worrying or in a lopsided smile. She has bright white teeth, but a little bit are crooked and her canine teeth are abnormally sharper than usual. She's slim and has more muscle from running and fighting. She has a scar on the side of her neck from a run-in with an unknown demon. Melanye has a long neck, like a swan. She walks like a dancer, a confident one, holding her head high. Her right leg is slightly longer than her left, so when she stands, she crosses her left leg over her right all the time. She has a very visible bite mark on her shoulder from running into the three Fates and almost not escaping alive. She has a tattoo of an elegant black design of an owl sweeping above her right eye, to represent her owl friend. Her ears are small, and pierced twice. She always has on the lightning bolt necklace. She tries to blend in with the crowd as much as she can, so she sticks with simple clothing, but that still bring out her looks. However, what sticks out is her sword, partially hidden in its holder.
LEGEND: Melanye never knew too much about her past. She woke up one day when she was 15 and found herself in one of Zeus' most sacred temples in Greece. In this particular temple, none were allowed except for the one specified priest. Melanye couldn't even remember that, and the words find me, and you'll be rewarded were playing in her mind. However, the words also gave her a searing pain in her mind. The voice was playing with her. She walked around the temple, picking up things not to be picked up and putting them down. She picked up the lightning bolt necklace and took it, mostly because she thought it was pretty. What happened was unexplainable to her when she put it on. Wind whipped around, smacking her face. Lightning boomed down, and the ground shook. A bolt hit her, and the pain was incredible. She writhed on the floor, her mind melting. After screaming, she lay there panting as the earth cracked beneath her. You have been chosen. You are my daugher, now. Melanye, you are ready. The words spoke softly, automatically calming her. Get ready. Melanye quickly got up as her sword popped into her hand. An owl fluttered down. A note was stuck to it, telling Melanye that she was now the daughter of Zeus and Athena was assigned by Zeus to help her through life. So, Athena sent down her loyal owl to help Melanye until the day she died. She didn't get to finish her note, because the temple started to burn. Demons burst through the door, but she was gone. She was in the fire, following the instructions on the note and the owl.

OOC - Hey Voleysocr2, thanks for joining. You have noticed that there is already a scion of the Dodekatheon, though, and plenty of other pantheons (and storm gods) out there? I know the Greek gods are fun, but there really are some cool gods and myths that a lot of people haven't even considered. Also, if you have purviews mentioned in boons, YOU MUST INCLUDE A BIRTHRIGHT OBJECT THAT GRANTS THAT PURVIEW IN THE BIRTHRIGHT SECTION. Seriously, guys, I'm tired of saying it. The Birthright section is to describe what an object/creature looks like and allows, while the boons section is for you to list what powers that allowance grants. Also, Zeus doesn't have anything to do with Chaos, War, Fire, Water, Frost, or Prophecy. If you wanted to make your character's theme something like "The Upper Atmosphere" or "The Winds" Frost might work, and fire might work if you were planning on becoming the greek goddess of lightning, or prophecy might work if your theme was fate or balance, or something, but your backstory doesn't have a theme or a mythological pattern. A theme of "storms" might fit the sky, fire, frost, and water purviews (and possibly chaos), but War and Prophecy? Not so much. Strength and Appearance are both good choices for scions of Zeus, (Hercules and Helen of Troy, for instance, were his children), though the "projecting thoughts with a glance" effect might better fit into Epic Manipulation than Epic Appearance.

Also, the fates are goddesses... granted, they are goddesses completely consumed by the force of Fate, but they are still not likely to bite you, as they are allies of the gods.

Also, Zeus is a god... he isn't bound by distance or particularly tied to Greece. His worship spread across the world with the empires of Greece, Macedonia, and Rome. A whole planet is named for him. You can probably find a shrine to him (either his history or the planet jupiter) in your local museum, or a town called Olympia, or a former Olympic stadium. Your character doesn't have to go to Greece to find a connection with Zeus... all she has to do is go outside in a storm, or look through a telescope at Jupiter, or watch Hercules on TV. The gods work in mysterious ways icon_wink.gif

Subject: First, some thoughts...
All righty, Martin, first of all I have some thoughts, and questions before I make up a character sketch, so bear with me.

1) This RPG is obviously well thought out and detailed down to the nitty gritty, as it should be if it was originally a pen and paper game before it was the role-play. That is a pro and a con. Most of the details are what people don't like going into up front, and it seems like in the knacks section you are hung up with the epic attributes as somewhat of a general and specific roles (attributes=general while knacks=specific). Why not eliminate the knacks and just group them all under a category of "Passive Attributes"? I mean I know you did the general and specific due to the pen and paper atmosphere previously, but even then it still seems repetitive and unnecessary.

2) I can see how you are working in the birthrights to boons in application. The scion has boons they can use, but only through the birthrights they are given by their personal patron until they are claimed as a demi-god, or at least that is how I interpreted it. So for this I'm ready for posting a sketch in all but one area: the general and specific nature of it. I see that the relic, guardian, or animal possibilities are endless, and you can have multiples of them, but as for specific powers associated with each relic/guardian/animal seems to me that it is too concentrated, can we have this be more generalized and have the characters evolve a general boon out of an item?

3) Legend question: Must we research our patron to the point of duplicating their legend in a modern-day atmosphere, I mean it seems tedious and unnecessary now as if you can put it in later during the story when another person's character asks about another character's past? This may just be me as only wanting to put in a background category for those people who absolutely think it critical to include something about their past. Also could be me just wanting to start and hating to overload my members with stuff to fill out before playing.

4) Overall I love the idea of the RPG I just think that players are going to feel too overwhelmed with the infinite options offered to them and might be better to restrict them more. For example maybe only do Egyptian, Norse, Greek, and Voodoo gods to get more variety in the powers as almost every Pantheon has a Sea, Sky, and Underworld god/goddess. You might even do as Rick Riodan did in that he only took the Greek genre to explore it's complexities.

5) I'll try a character bio when I see a response to this post I think. I'd like to make a character based around having a shinnigami (seeing as I just finished the Death Note Manga), a super-speed based warrior (similar to Kenshin Immorah (sp?) from Rurouni Kenshin manga), or an physically and mentally agile character (like L or Light from the Death Note Manga).

Subject: Beastboy77, glad to hear from you Smile
1) Really, if people aren't going to read something because it is long, then you're probably not going to like this rpg anyway. God is in the Details, after all. The reasons for knacks is that not everyone who has some ability (defined as the epic attributes in this game) can do the same things. Sherlock Holmes, if he was a Scion, would use Epic Perception to notice tiny details in a room, while Heimdall uses it to hear grass on earth growing from his post at the top of Bifrost. A psychologist might notice a person's body language and speech patterns, while a hunter might notice tracks and broken twigs, and an occultist would notice unusual alterations in a ritual that corrupt its original purpose. All of them rely on perception, none of them would fit a single character (unless, say, you wanted to make someone who focused on epic perception, eventually becoming the god of perception, etc). Knacks make a character special. The Magnificent Seven (or the Seven Samurai, upon which it was based) might have seven gunslingers (or samurai), but each has different skills and talents.
2) The same goes for the boons and purviews granted by birthrights. Two characters might have the sky purview, but one might focus on lightning boons, while the other deals with wind or sound or flight. Your understanding of the function of birthrights for accessing purviews and boons IS accurate, though.
3) You do make a good point about preferring to start playing and letting your character's background reveal itself, though I still think showing some research or familiarity with the myth went into your character's creation is a good thing. Your character, however, does not have to have a life that resembles his divine parent's... I just did that with Tomas to illustrate how it works and how it is possible to be clever with character creation. What your background should do, however, is identify where your character is coming from, and perhaps, in what direction he or she is going.
4) In the original game, the available pantheons are the Dodekatheon, Loa, Atzlanti, Amatsukami, Aesir, and Pesedjet (though there are rules for making new ones listed in one chapter). The next book introduces a made-up Atlantean pantheon, and a few other gods, and later supplements add additional gods as well as the Tuatha, Celestial Bureaucracy, Devas, and Yazata. Rick Riodan did an excellent job, but I also think that limiting people to one pantheon (especially the Greeks, who are getting to be a tad overdone) or even a few major ones diminishes the contributions of various cultures and myths. Civilization, for instance, began in Mesopotamia, and if any of these gods were to be considered true rulers of the world today, it would be the Hindu ones (there are not enough serious neopagans to count the Tuatha as powerful religious entities). The way I have it set up, EVERYONE is welcome to make any god or myth their own. And there will be plenty of complexities to explore. Also, while there are plenty of sky, death, and love gods, I should point out that's not the point. Being a son of Hades makes you an almost nefarious figure. Being a son of Hel makes you a beautiful monster. Being a son of Izanami makes you the tragic inheritor of the world. Being the son of Baron Samedi makes you a party animal. Being a son of Yanluo makes you gentle and kind and Buddhist. Being a son of Osiris or Anubis makes you a wise ruler and elemental figure or a mysterious judge. Mictlantecuhtli's son would be capable yet a little horrific. All of them are "death gods", all unique, all PEOPLE with characteristics revealing a totally different view of death. Being a death god's son makes you powerful... being Morrigan's son makes you REAL.

Subject: Continued and Concepts
5) Glad to hear you have character concepts icon_smile.gif I am familiar with the concept of Shinigami from Descendants of Darkness, but I haven't read the rest of the sources you mentioned.

I figured I'd post some other characters, so that you all might get an idea of what's going through my head. Hope these are enlightening.

Hal, Scion of Hel, was actually the son of Loki, but was stillborn. Hel agreed to bring her "baby brother" back to life, but insisted he become her scion. He was always a nerd, reclusive, falling for beautiful people who ignored him, until his mother's blessings came to him. During the day he's handsome, but at sundown he turns into a monstrous undead figure, reflecting his mother's half beautiful, half cadaverous form. His goal is to convince Titanspawn to side with the gods, making him the future Norse God of Monsters. He has many pets (draugr, svartalfar, fenrir & lindorm), but he also has the fire, death, darkness, health and animal purviews, and both versions of Epic Appearance as well as Epic Charisma and Manipulation. All his pets can be summoned by touching one of his tattoos and chanting from the prose eddas.

Kailani, Scion of Kamohoalii, was the result when the shark god, working for the coast guard, found her mother's drifting and broken house boat, and rescued her, only to disappear a month later. She was raised by her mother and lawyer stepfather, and excelled at surfing and argument, but went into law enforcement and rose through the ranks as an officer, and now is on extended leave due to strings her father pulled, so that she can track down Titanspawn. She will eventually be the Goddess of Rays (sting rays, skates, manta rays, etc). Her purviews are water, guardian, psychopomp and animal (Chondrichthyes), her birthrights are a shark jaw tattoo on her back and a surfboard-shaped necklace, and she has epic perception, wits, and manipulation.

Manuel, Scion of Tlaloc, was born right before a hurricane. He grew up in near poverty, but was determined to see the world, and joined the army. In one tight spot in the middle East, he showed amazing determination and cleverness, and a sudden cloudburst helped hide their passage. On the way back to camp, the rain spoke to Manuel, revealing itself as his father, and coalescing into a crystal skull and stylized pistol that uses water for ammo, but fires with the force of a hurricane. Now that he is out of the service, this future god of disasters offers every slain foe to Tlaloc, the Bringer of Rain, while trying to balance his innate gentle nature. His purviews are Sky, Water, Earth, and Chaos, and he has Epic Strength and Stamina.

Subject: More concepts...
Mitsuko, scion of Marishi, was fascinated by magic acts as a kid, and her dream was to become a stage magician. Her mother, the goddess of Illusions, approved of this, and, in the form of a shrine maiden, taught Mai how to pull of stunts that dazzled experts using a golden wand and colorful fan, along with ancient scrolls. She has taken her act on tour, and is a minor celebrity, but each performance includes spells that ban Titanspawn from the surrounding area, and she uses illusions to sneak away and fight the monsters when she can. Her purviews are illusion, magic, sun, darkness, moon, and stars, and she has epic dexterity, intelligence and wits.

Sean, Scion of Aengus, was handsome. Very handsome. Very, very, very handsome. But he had no drive, no goal, no direction, just an attitude for messing around... until he landed the role of Romeo for the school play. He was fascinated... love, romance, tragedy, beauty, comedy... it was the stuff of life itself, boiled down. He caused a bit of a stir when he began reading through his mom's romance novels, then searched the libraries for more and more, seeking the stuff of love, until one librarian (his father in disguise) told him that true romance is found in yourself and in others, and directed Sean to find his heart and live out his story, fighting monsters and rescuing the innocent, armed with Aengus' sword Moralltach, a Sidhe Lady as his guide, a swarm of sprites, and a cloak of swan feathers. He seeks a suitably noble steed, and has Epic Appearance (Attractive), Charisma, Manipulation, and the Health, Guardian, and Animal (Birds) purviews.

Jason, scion of Hera, seemed consumed by two sins throughout his life... Pride and Envy. This young man, though himself an Olympic triathlete and archer, seethed in jealousy when his older brother or classmates got recognition that he didn't, and he kept himself aloof from others, making few friends. However, though he felt superior to others, he also felt a duty to help them whenever they needed it, so many of his charitable actions were disguised as hauteur. While helping an old woman across a street, she whispered to him that she was a goddess, and his true mother, and that he was, in fact, destined for greatness. Her gifts were a bag of dragon's teeth, winged sandals, a bow with peacock-plumed arrows, and a necklace of metal from the Apollo rockets, and he has the magic, sky, and prophecy purviews, as well as Epic Manipulation.

Delphine, Scion of La Sirene, lived a blissful life in the islands, as a beautiful woman with cafe au lait skin and flowing hair. She worked as a travel agent, setting vacations for others and dreaming of exploring herself, and studied oceanography on the side. Her mother arose from the depths as she was swimming one evening, spoke to her the the voice of the sea, and gave her a seashell girdle, a set of blue candles that burn underwater, and a magic net to bind her foes. She has Epic Appearance and Stamina, and the Water, Animal (Fish, Dolphin), Moon, and Mystery purviews, and she will one day be loa goddess of the tides.

1) Ah I see, so you want to use these Epic Attributes to classify your RPers into certain genres of abilities. That was a subtle and slick trick, I did not catch that. Nice work :p

2) With the purviews should we announce which purview we would like our character to be the god of eventually?

3) I guess the background thing is more of a personal taste of the creator of the plot. I like my characters and RPers to surprise me whereas you like to get a feel for where everyone is headed, so it is understandable. Also the only reason I like people to not feel obligated for a background is because it feels like I’m prodding my players to do too much, I like a sense of mystery if that is what the players want to add to the story, and, frankly, I just don’t have that one extra section I don’t have to read. [laughs]

4) Ah now I really see the scope of the RPG. You really want to diversify the views of the gods of their respective powers and genres. You also wanted someone who likes a specific genre to stick with the one they liked in addition to allowing people who just want to develop a specific type of character the ability to find them. Very clever, Martin. Again, I’d like to tip my hat to you.

5) I see, well it looks like if I really want to join this I’ll have to do some significant research :p Also if you wish, you can try to find me on other websites to play the pen and paper version online if you want icon_wink.gif

1) Thanks icon_smile.gif And yeah, anyone can say "I'm superstrong" or "I'm a genius" or "I'm hot/hideous". What makes a character stands out is "I might not be able to bench press a bus, but I can throw this evil relic into orbit" or "I'm such a master of computers, Hephaestus approached me to design Olympus' internet security" or "I'm so hot/hideous that you physically won't be able to move except to stare at me... and your spouse will stare at me, and your mother-in-law will stare at me, and everyone in the room will stare at me while I go about my business unhindered."

2) The "god of" feature is more something you should consider when writing the legend... it is part of that "where you're coming from, where you're going" thing. Purviews and Epic Attributes help define that, but divinity is so much more than what powers you have. Most scions don't know what role they'll become, though, so the "god of" stuff can wait until we achieve godhood (if we get that far). "God of..." features should probably be a little more specific than just the purviews, anyway. My idea is that Sean (in the above example) would be the Irish God of Romance, though there are no love purviews (just Epic Appearance, Manipulation, Charisma, etc). Even once you reach godhood, Thor will still be more powerful than you... he's been worshipped for centuries, has far more experience, etc... becoming a god isn't the end... it's the next step... there will still be a need to prove yourself once you become immortal.

3) Yeah, more or less, but see what I said about backgrounds above.

4) Thanks! And yeah, all these details are supposed to provide a framework to build a really cool character, not chains to weigh and bog you down.

5) And not really... research is always good, but honestly, just having fun and ENJOYING the myths is the part I want to convey. I took a traditional villain (Hera) and managed to make a somewhat heroic son for her, based on the opening part of the Jason and the Argonauts myth. I think that sort of thing is really cool, and I'm curious to see what you guys have come up with when you try the same thing. It doesn't take more than a quick visual scan of the original story to find the element of helping an old lady across some barrier, the name Jason, and a reference to Hera to go from my character's story to that of the epic hero.

And I'd be happy to join you trying the pen and paper version (do you own the books?) somewhere. I'll have to tweak Tomas or Kailani a bit (I loosened the rules and removed the point system to make it more message-board-able), though icon_smile.gif

3Sadly I don't have the books, nor the time unless it would be during a break, but I could do like one or two things on the weekends for fun with you if you'd like, I'm pretty fascinated, I just never got into D&D, more of a card type guy when I was younger, so I did Pokemon, then Yu-Gi-OH! and got really good at that, and finally went to Magic and Warcraft cards but never had anyone to play against so it just fell apart.

Also, I nMailed you my bio before I post it, I'm thinking I did way too much and the god I chose was hard to research on wikipedia, they gave me next to nothing to check.
